EL PASO MISSION TRAIL: WHERE HISTORY MEETS EXCITEMENT
EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso Mission Trail, located in the Mission Valley, is a vacation destination that is fun for everyone. The nine-mile trail highlights historical missions as well as several local restaurants, museums, art galleries, a free concert center and much more! Open daily, with shuttle service and guided tours available, the Mission Trail experience is sure to make any family vacation unforgettable.
The focal points of the trail are the two Missions and Presidio that are separated into three small but distinctively different communities. Ysleta Mission, located in Tigua Indians Territory of Ysleta, remains the “oldest continuously active parish in the state of Texas.” The rich culture, museums and tight-knit community provide for a telling insight into the history and lives of the Tigua Indians.
The Socorro Mission sits just a little further up the trail and claims the honor of being the “second oldest Mission in the state of Texas.” Though it was once home to the Piro Indians, the community of Socorro has a large Spanish influence due to Spanish refugees. This is reflected not only in the Mission but also in the restaurants you find along the way.
And located in Historic San Elizario is the San Elizario Presidio and Chapel. It sits off of the square in the artsy town, walking distance from museums, galleries and restaurants. The Adobe structure serves as a full-functioning church that caters to the creative and dedicated community.
Restaurants differ depending on the area, ranging from classic American food to authentic Mexican and rich, delicatessen pastries. A variety of museums offer an expanded insight into the history of the area and its community. And the Historic San Elizario district is home to several local artists, most notable for their awards and contributions to art.
